Why are all cults and religions controlled by men?
Cult
noun, definition : a relatively small group of people having beliefs or practices, especially relating to religion, that are regarded by others as strange or sinister or as imposing excessive control over members.
Wikipedia says this: cults are social groups which have unusual, and often extreme, religious, spiritual, or philosophical beliefs and rituals. Extreme devotion to a particular person, object, or goal is another characteristic often ascribed to cults. The term has different, and sometimes divergent or pejorative, definitions both in popular culture and academia and has been an ongoing source of contention among scholars across several fields of study.
The word "cult" is derived from the Latin term cultus, which means worship. In modern English the term cult is generally a pejorative, carrying derogatory connotations. The term is variously applied to abusive or coercive groups of many categories, including gangs, organized crime, and terrorist organizations.
An older sense of the word cult, which is not pejorative, indicates a set of religious devotional practices that is conventional within its culture, is related to a particular figure, and is frequently associated with a particular place, or generally the collective participation in rites of religion. References to the imperial cult of ancient Rome, for example, use the word in this sense. A derived sense of "excessive devotion" arose in the 19th century, and usage is not always strictly religious.
When I looked up “what is a cult” this site showed up that said this which I think is a better description: A cult is an organized group whose purpose is to dominate cult members through psychological manipulation and pressure strategies. Cults are usually headed by a powerful leader who isolates members from the rest of society.
Religion
noun, definition : the belief in and worship of a superhuman power or powers, especially a God or gods: "ideas about the relationship between science and religion" · "I have benefited from our conversations on politics, religion, sport, and many other areas" · "religion played a large role in her politics".
Wikipedia says this: religion is a range of social-cultural systems, including designated behaviors and practices, morals, beliefs, worldviews, texts, sanctified places, prophecies, ethics, or organizations, that generally relate humanity to supernatural, transcendental, and spiritual elements —although there is no scholarly consensus over what precisely constitutes a religion. It is an essentially contested concept. Different religions may or may not contain various elements ranging from the divine, sacredness, faith, and a supernatural being or beings.
The definition of religion is a controversial and complicated subject in religious studies with scholars failing to agree on any one definition. Oxford Dictionaries defines religion as the belief in and/or worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.
Scholars have failed to agree on a definition of religion. There are however two general definition systems: the sociological/functional and the phenomenological/philosophical.
Ok… so….
All of this is extremely vague, and confusing. The way I’d describe it is like this, cults are basically religions, but smaller. That’s the most simplistic definition. Religions mostly worship a male god or deity, and male preachers. Cults are basically the same thing but smaller.
I was on TikTok and I learned about something called Zoroastrianism. This was a religion from Iran that was almost completely irradiated from the Middle East because of Islam. If you know anything about Islam, they colonize a country and then whatever religion is in that land goes away. For example, Lebanon used to be a Christian country before Muslims arrived. Ancient Egypt, one of my favorite societies, was pagan and they worshipped multiple gods and goddesses, most famously the god of the afterlife, the sun god, and the goddess of motherhood and magic.
britannica.com says Zoroastrianism dates back to the 6th century BCE. Founded in ancient Persia. Some of them reside now in India. Zoroastrianism is one of the world's oldest monotheistic religions.
When countries are Islamicized, they either lose their culture, religion, or both. The kinder Muslims do something called “jizya” and this is a taxation on non-Muslims. So basically you have to pay for not being a Muslim when they show up and conquer the land. All of this leads into what I wanted to talk about today, religion and cults. So if you notice today, most big religions are sort of a problem, especially concerning women’s rights. As a woman I always wondered why the biggest religions I heard about my entire life all worship men. I’m not saying there’s necessarily anything wrong with worshipping a man or men. But let’s be real, cults and religions are a problem. Maybe back thousands of years ago there was a religion somewhere out there that could help me and was made for someone like me, but clearly it’s not here on earth anymore.
